CARL FILLION - Set Designer

Born in 1966 in Québec's province of Canada, Carl Fillion obtained his diploma in scenography from the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Québec in 1991. Because of his technical knowledge, he rapidly became requested to design sets with the best known professionnals of province of Québec. His work distinguishes itself with original conceptions of moving spaces and by use of technological means.

In 1993, director Robert Lepage calls for Carl Fillion services to design scenography of The Seven Streams of the Ota River, presented in many cities in Europe, Japan and Canada. Since, Carl Fillions has signed near ten production with Lepage: Elsinore (1995), Geometry of Miracles (1997), La Celestina (1998 + 2004), Jean-Sans-Nom (1999), La Damnation de Faust (1999) and La Casa Azul (2001). They work together in productions of theater, opera, musical productions, using strenght of movement and leading-edge technologies. Their next work is the opera 1984, composed by maestro Lorin Maazel, opening at Royal Opera House in Covent Garden (London) in May 2005.

Apart Lepage, Carl Fillion has designed many productions with different directors in Québec and Europe, like Antigone at the Abbey Theater (Dublin) in 2004. Carl Fillion teached to young set designers at the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Québec (1992-2002) and at National Theater School of Canada in Montréal (2000-2002).
