| MARY LLOYD-DAVIES - Mezzo-Soprano Mary Lloyd-Davies is from North Wales and studied at the Royal College of Music in London with further tuition in Paris. During her early career Mary was finalist in many prestigious awards including the Blue Ribband prize at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod and the Kathleen Ferrier Scholarship. Principal roles at Welsh National Opera include Leonora in Fidelio; Gerhilde in Der Ring des Nibelungen; Turandot in Turandot; Amelia in Un Ballo In Maschera; Lady Macbeth in Macbeth; Mother in Hansel and Gretel and Tosca in Tosca. Mary has also performed Ortlinde in Der Ring des Nibelungen at Bayreuther Festspiele; Elektra in Elektra for Welsh National Opera; Nuremberg Opera and Bastille Opera; Ortrud in Lohengrin for English National Opera and the roles of Isolde in Tristan and Isolde and Mrs Grose in Turn of the Screw for Welsh National Opera and English National Opera. Recent performances include Mother in Hansel and Gretel for Houston Grand Opera and San Francisco Opera. Mary also sang the role of Overseer in Elektra, conducted by Donald Runnicles for the 2003 BBC Proms. For the past year Mary has been focusing on a different Fach, moving down to the dramatic mezzo roles and extending her repertoire in this field. Her future engagements include the role of Fortune Teller in Arabella at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and in 2005 Mary will play Washerwoman in Maestro Maazel's newly commissioned opera 1984 also at the Royal Opera House. |
